FIGURES, FACES AND CREATURES

The figures include an angry artist's model and a couple of images of Sophia Loren dancing, her skirt flying uncontrollably in San Miguel de Allende (a city in central Mexico that because of a series of mysterious coincidences became my winter home). The faces are many and varied, including a number of Molls and my versions of Zola's Nana. One obvious creature is my awkwardly regal dog perched on a stump; less obvious is a Sea Monster arising over an abstract and evidently unaware man on the beach.Smoking is a repeated theme (though, thankfully, I never gathered the habit), showing up in a series of cigarette-wielding woman and more recently in a large group of cigar-smoking men with social pretensions. My recent take-offs on Seurat paintings led to an abstracted rendition of the artist's "Woman with a Powder Puff," (the woman Seurat's secret mistress), which became a parody of both the pointillist technique and feminine vanity of yesteryear. |

The above canvas was prompted by my studio mate refusing to pay his nude female models.

Nana was inspired by Zola's novel. Prices range from $225 to $350 for pure archival prints. Prints with significant alterations in acrylic, collage, etc., and large works on paper are from $1200 to $3000. (Elaborate works like The Scientific Analysis of Seurat's Woman Powdering Herself, to the right, are examples of the higher priced work.} Works on canvas are $1000 for smaller pieces and for bigger work $1600 to $4000, |

The Jiggs series began as quick wandering ink lines inspired by the old Bringing Up Father comic strip. It developed into many permutations of a character with a cigar, the smoke rendered as an abstract shape or a veil of black that invades half the sheet.
